The Long View

Out on the Playa
there is a long silence
that can last a lifetime

Enduring
flood-drought
hard times
and good

Here
the sun sets and rises
on a cycle
so ancient
that our presence
barely regristers

this quiet
inner rhythm
knows that
good things of value
take time
and hard work

as there is
no other path

Fortune smiles
with a temporal glee
fleeting and
fickle
more distracting
than substantive

While outside
on the edges of this vast Playa
Desert Sage
grows slowly
and with purpose.
